It was a picture-perfect weekend for Homecoming and Family Weekend, October 6-8, 2017. And there are plenty of photographs to prove it. is now available. View photographs of alumni, students, VWU family and friends who gathered for the weekend’s festivities including the homecoming parade, reunions, tailgating, music, food and many special events.

On Friday, energetic parade participants performed a wide variety of acts in attire reminiscent of years past, representing the 2017 theme: Blast from the Past. VWU Homecoming King and Queen, juniors AJ Ramirez and Terra Caple, were crowned at the parade.

Highlights of the weekend also included the dedication of the Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Center Dedication, Class of 2017 Tree Dedication, Homecoming Performing Arts Showcase, the President’s Parents Roundtable, numerous alumni games and VWU varsity athletic competitions in volleyball, field hockey, and soccer.

The first Chili Cook Off was held on Trinder lawn. The victorious chefs were: Grand Prize Winner Robert Scott ’92, Faculty/staff Winner John Aird ’07, and VWU Student Winner Amber McDonald.

The celebration of VWU’s NCAA Division III Softball Champions continued during Homecoming and Family Weekend as well. Championship rings were presented to the team’s members during a halftime ceremony at the women’s soccer game. In addition, special awards were presented to Hanna Hull '20, NCAA Division III National Player of the Year and National Freshman of the Year, and Kiersten Richardson '18, who received the Golden Shoe award for stolen bases.

The weekend culminated with an interdenominational worship service in the Monumental Chapel and brunch in Boyd Dining Center on Sunday.
