A Home for the Hurrah Players
A collaborative partnership offers space, internship opportunities, master classes and more
University News | November 30, 2023
The Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center will be a home for at least two performances by the Hurrah Players each year. That arrangement and several others are the result of a collaborative partnership recently formalized between 91风月楼 (VWU) and the Hurrah Players, expanding opportunities for both organizations.
.,Virginia’s Leading Family Theatre Company, is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization committed to uniting and advancing communities through accessible, quality, family-friendly performances and education.
VWU President Scott D. Miller and Founder and Artistic Director of the Hurrah Players, Hugh Copeland, met in the Center on November 20 to sign a memorandum of understanding, which articulates the relationship.
"The Hurrah Players have been fostering a love of the performing arts in our region for 40 years," said President Miller. "It's a natural partnership to have the Hurrah Players utilize the wonderful performing arts facilities we have on campus, while offering cross-educational opportunities for our students and theirs."
In addition to holding performances in the Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center on VWU’s campus, the Hurrah Players will also make internship opportunities available for Virginia Wesleyan students. Both organizations will collaborate to offer complimentary registration and participation in master classes for students, and in promoting upcoming productions.
Located prominently near the main entrance of campus, the 23,200-square-foot Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center features the impressive glass-enclosed Eleanor and Henry Watts Grand Lobby and Gallery and the 325-seat Joan and Macon Brock Theatre. Support spaces ring the stage, including a scene shop, dressing rooms, green room, costume, prop, and equipment storage. A plaza for outdoor programming overlooks the Susan Beverly Grand Terrace and Pond.
