Rooted and Established

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6-7)

Lord God, we thank you for the body of Christ in Libya and we pray just as Paul prayed that they would walk in Him, that their roots would go deep and they would be established in their faith, not forgetting what they have received. Let each believer grow and mature in their faith not being tossed to and fro by the waves.

Located in the deep desert of Wadi al Shatii, the small town of Brak has a population of about 40,000 and is the home to a well-known technical college. Father, raise up laborers for the harvest in this small region of Libya. Thank you that you see and know each person living in this desert region.

Libyan Pauls and Timothys

Father, we ask You for more mature believers. Turn them into Pauls, who will find their Timothys. Let there be many healthy relationships between spiritual parents and spiritual children. We pray that the children in faith will walk humbly with eagerness to learn. We pray that the parents will lead and teach through example and service. Break the curse between the generations, which has drastically increased through the last decade and let in Your church rule unity and deep appreciation between the generations.

Support Funding for Youth

Last month, the prime minister of Libya pledged billions of dinars towards youth through funding marriages and housing loans. Many young people are excited and hopeful about the possibility of a better future through this support fund.

Father God, we lift up the youth of Libya asking for them to receive a better hope and future through knowing Christ. We pray for future marriages in this generation to be founded upon a belief in Jesus as Savior and God.

Humble Hearts

Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:34)

Lord Jesus, we thank you for your perfect example of humility and we pray for a spirit of humility in our own hearts as well as in the hearts of believers in Libya. Let us not seek to elevate ourselves but help us to come down low and serve as you called us to.

Listening with Ears and Heart

Father God, thank you so much for Lucas, a man who is seeking to know the truth and who you are recognizing that he needs to know what he believes and not just accept what he’s heard. As he spoke these words to friends who were sharing the Gospel with him, “I’m hearing you with my ears, my mind and my heart”, we ask for his heart to hear and respond to you Jesus!

Libyan Lydias

Father, we pray that You will rise up seeking, smart, influential and courageous women like Lydia in Libya. We pray for these women that You will use them to spread the gospel, serve the saints and to build Your church in unreached cities across Libya. Like You once opened Lydia’s heart (Acts 16:14), please open many more women’s hearts in Libya.

Reopening of Embassies

One of the signs of good progress in the political state of the country are the reopening of several foreign embassies including France, Spain and Germany. There is a greater presence now of foreigners in Libya after a long period of very few coming in.

Father, we continue to thank you for the progress being made towards stability and peace in Libya. As more foreigners come into the country who are believers, let more Libyans have opportunities to hear the good news from them. Change their perspective to see that they too can choose their faith and take away the mindset that “to be Libyan is to be a Muslim.”

God’s Building Project

Lord, we affirm and celebrate your divine building project, the Libyan Church. We ask that you strengthen each living stone and bring many more stones to make up a dwelling place suitable for your Spirit. Let Jesus the Messiah always be the Cornerstone, and let the Spirit of God move in power among and through the Libyan believers!

Children of Believers

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:14-15)

Father, we pray for the children of believers in Libya that they would grow up hearing your Word and that they would be convinced of the truth within Scripture. We ask for their salvation and for their faith to grow deep roots.

Libyan Apolloses

Apollos was an eloquent man, well versed in the Scriptures, who spoke and taught accurately about Jesus with spiritual fervor and helped the believers to grow in understanding of what they had come to believe (cf. Acts 18:24-28).

Father, we ask you for men like him in Libya. We ask for Spirit-filled academics with deep thoughts, burning hearts and eloquent tongues who will bring deep understanding of Scripture and Your heavenly mindset to the Libyan believers. We also ask for people who are trained and filled by You to boldly defend the faith in front of the Muslim majority. Please raise up Libyan apologists!

Courage to Share

One of the local believers, Cassandra, shared the Book with a co-worker and spoke to her about what it means to follow Christ and become a child of God.

Father, we ask for a heart of repentance and surrender in this woman’s heart that she would receive the great joy of believing and becoming your child. Give our sister, Cassandra, the words to speak and continued courage to share with her.

Shadow of Your Wings

“How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” (Psalm 36:7)

Oh Almighty God, you are our refuge and fortress! Let your children in Libya find rest and security in the shadow of your wings. Let them become free of fear and anxiety as they run to you.

Libyan Barnabasses

Father, we ask You for mature believers like Barnabas, who will encourage others. Raise up chosen men and women who will encourage Your household in Libya and who will find, train, encourage and release the Pauls You have prepared for Libya. Father, Your church in Libya is desperately in need of these people. As You love to give good gifts to Your children, we ask You: Please give them modern Barnabasses.

Keep Asking for Unity

Father God, we continue to ask for unity in the Libyan government as rival factions try to disrupt the progress towards peaceful elections this year. We pray against the schemes of the enemy to stir up disorder and chaos once again and we ask for your kingdom to come in this land.

Wives and Husbands

In Ephesians 5:22-33, Paul instructs wives and husbands in how to live with one another comparing the relationship to that of Christ to the church. It’s a beautiful picture of submission and sacrificial love that is described.

Father, we pray now for marriages in Libya to reflect this type of relationship where husbands are laying down their lives for their wives in love, and likewise, wives are submitting to the headship of their husbands giving them honor. We pray especially for believers who are unequally yoked that their love for their spouse would help their spouse to discover your sacrificial love for us.
